For those who have owned, or driven these old Vanagons quite a bit, what kind of gas mileage did you get, approximately? I was hoping that I could expect somewhere around 20, which seems reasonable to me. If it's too low, that would be a negative factor for me. By the way, this would also most likely be a daily driver--not much every day (I only drive about 8,000 miles per year), but I'm hoping it would also have some semblance of reliability. Granted, I know that I'm talking about a 27 year old car, and I don't have unrealistic expectations that it will never break down or need some maintainance. But, breaking down all the time would be annoying.
This is a tough decision for me, because it would most likely require me to get rid of my beloved 89 900S, which I have had for seven years, and I absolutely love it. Best car I've ever had. I will not get rid of the SAAB lightly, but at this time in life, I can't afford (or have space for) two cars. So you can see why this would be a tough decision!
