I just when through this as we "need" a bigger vehicle than out 2001 ML320. I was trying to sell my wife on either the Outlook or the CX-9. She said no way on the CX-9 but was willing to have a look at the Saturn since her first car was an SC2. On paper the Outlook is a wonderful vehicle. It hit all of or tick boxes (e.g., seat 6, air-bags all round, reasonable mileage, front wheel drive, etc.).
So, we went and drove one. I was really underwhelmed with the quality of the interior and I don't think, based on our short drive only, it's going to live up to it's mileage claims. It was a little noisy on the highway (wind noise I think). When we went into talk numbers it became very apparent how much Saturn is just another branch of GM. Saturn used to be "cool" and took pride in the fact it was a "new kind of car company." I think that's all been flushed away.
So, we didn't walk away with the Outlook. The vehicle, in our evaluation, turned out to be less than it seemed to be on paper.
So, we ended up keeping an eye out for a CPO MBZ R-class. About a month ago we ended up with a 2006 R350 with a 21K miles, a 4-year/100,000 CPO warranty and a familiar service/dealer environment. All for about the same price as the new Outlook. And it made my wife happy :-)
