I have an 05 outback xt. the turbo engine is very fun. the mpg though is bad, usually for me 18 around town and 20-22 on the highway. car handles well, awd is great, with snowtires just awesome. So far pretty reliable. However, with the turbo engines, there can be a bit of an engine stutter that has never really been fixed. One fix from subaru so far for the ecu, helps a ton, but it is still there. the 05 and 06 radios dont have an aux input, so no IPOD. brakes on the outback turbo are inadequate in my mind. For warranty work so far, one headliner leak, one trim piece fell off, front rotors warped so they machined them, radio is known to have some weird issues such as flashes randomly, volume sometimes self adjusts. the turbo seats are nice, the regular ones are okay. the 5 speed auto is pretty nice but is only in turbo cars. plenty of room inside. I think more reliable than my saab 00 9-3. turbo has 250hp, regular has 175 i think. I would look at the legacy though if you dont need the extra clearance of the outback. clearence is good though up here in mid New Hampshire for when the snow comes and for dirt roads. stock brigestone potenza tires are not great at all, below average.
