I volunteered to look at a 02 Jetta 1.8t for a friend with a ruined engine which I now regret very much. The car is taking a bay in my two car garage since last September. The engine compartment is now empty with parts all over the place. Ever since I took it apart I have been so busy I had no time to look at it. But that is my problem.

The owner does not do cars. He just drives. The exhaust impeller fell into the exhaust pipe. The engine suffers low oil pressure. I don't know which happens first.

I don't like the car. It is a DIY's nightmare. Everything is so tightly packed you need to remove many parts before you can to the one you want to service. The turbocharger is behind the engine as the exhaust is. Not a good place to have it removed.

I never drove it as it was flat bed to my house. But I understand it packs good power in the 1.8T engine. Similar to the 9k, it reaches max. torque around 1,700 rpm and stays flat for a good, wide rpm range. There you will know why it attract so many VW lovers as do our SAAB because of the wide sweet spot.
