Let me first say, I LOVE the looks of them, both the RR and the LR4. Love them! But when spending that kind of money on a vehicle, I want decent reliability at the very least. Based on _every_ reliability survey I've seen, Range Rover just isn't there. And in my eyes it's a real shame.

I looked at every full sized SUV out there and while the RR was very temping, I knew it would be nothing but problems. I ended up with the 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser. The LC is very well built and has a long history of excellent reliability. I strongly recommend you look at it as an option assuming you can find one on dealer lots. They have proven to be very tough to find in the last couple months. Don't be surprised when you go looking that the salesmen want to steer you towards the Sequoia but don't bother. It's enormous but the build quality just isn't there. The LC feels like it's carved out of a single piece of granite. Of course, the Lexus version (the LX) is slightly more luxurious, has the air suspension, and costs about $10k more.

If you can wait, you may want to take a look at the new 2011 Infiniti QX. It will be based on the new Nissan Patrol and it looks impressive (the Patrol that is, I'm not too sure how the QX will look - I'm not a fan of recent Infiniti designs). Do a search on Autoblog to see the new Patrol.

Another option to look for is the Lexus GX. It's based on the new Land Cruiser Prado (the baby LC that is sold in other countries) and looks pretty good. Both the Infiniti and Lexus should prove to be far more reliable than the RR.

Again, I love the RR but if you plan on keeping it for a long time, I just don't think it would provide trouble-free driving. Good luck on your decision and let us know what you end up doing!
