I've got a buddy who spent years doing PDIs for Saab back in the '80s, and a friend who did it for Ford (still does, on certain models - like the GT). They've got some great stories about random stuff they've found and found wrong on new cars - Saabs with computer monitors in the trunk, Fords with wheels held on by one lug nut each. Between angry line workers, broken robots, poorly QC'd parts, and journeys of hundreds or thousands of miles stuff goes wrong... and the PDI is designed to insulate the consumer from that stuff. Frankly, I think it's comforting to know that likely whoever did this TT noted and addressed a problem rather than left it for the 1st buyer to find...
