Driving impression - 83T w/ msd btm Posted by Camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Camm) on Sun, 30 Oct 2005 19:55:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
After rebuilding my 83 900t with a new head, a-arm bushings, motor mounts and, most importantly - a MSD BTM, I gotta say WOW. I've had this thing on the car for a few months now, but finally got a chance to register and really drive it. Obviously, compared to alot of the options available now, a BTM is fairly unsophisticated, but for $160 and a one hour install, the improvement over stock is really nice. Previously, the car had the typical on/off turbo response (nothing...nothing.....WHOA!), particularly at anything under 2500 rpm. Now after the BTM install, the car's response is sooo much more progressive; the car is way snappier off the line and in all gears below 2k, there is a nice degree of response which quickly (by 2300) develops into the familar boost rush. I havent modified the car beyond this, (ie unmolested APC box, 10 lbs boost max, no intercooler, no h20 injection) but I am really satisfied. By comparison, my 99 9-3 SE (even with an MBC+A) now feels awfully peaky and on/off-ish.
Moral of the story - the MSD BTM is a nice, easy way to really improve the driveability of an old Saab.
PS, currently running 24 BTDC and about .8 on the BTM's knob.
