My lpt delima.... Posted by Chadwick [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Hello everyone,
Last March, the Light Pressure Turbo (no apc) upgrade was done on my 87 900s (220k, auto - 5 speed conversion, 2.5 inch catback exhaust, turbo injectors, 3bar fpr), and it truly drove like a dream until about a month ago. The boost was set at 5 psi, but I raised it to 9 in a quest for a bit more power. I should have known this was a mistake....
Something happened with the rings, cottage cheese comes out of the dipstick filler tube, and the valve cover breather I have on the car pukes oil and smoke..... Whoops.
So now it's time to fix it!
I hear rebuilding a engine really ins't worth it, though my current engine has a new headgasket, and has had almost every seal and gasket replaced within the last year. I can get a used turbo motor for 300 bucks, and that includes shop costs at the shop where I will be installing the engine.
Would running a turbo setup, without APC, and using an aftermarket boost knock protection system be a good setup? Would actually installing an APC system onto a 900s involve totally swapping out the wiring harness? Would it be worth porting a cylinder head for the porject or not?
I just don't want to lose the low end that the LPT had, but I want to have the high end pull of the full pressure turbo motor.... decisions decisions...
Happy Holidays!
Chadwick
