Adriaan,
Hope all's well!
There is always an advantage to a free flowing exhaust system but increasing exhaust pipe diameter is a matter of engine horsepower targets and is not always a requirement for the street modified 2.0 liter engine.
On paper, the 2.5" exhaust system can easily flow over 400 BHP worth of exhaust flow but bends and restrictions such as cat. conv., mufflers, bends, etc. would reduce this flow capability. For most steet modified 2.0 liter engines, 2.5" will more than meet your flow demands but reducing restictions can be of substantial benefit to engine performance.
A less restrictive downpipe can also be of some benefit and this is one area (on the 900) that could see some advantage with use of a 3" diameter exhaust pipe.
Best of luck and regards,
GSK at SWEDISH DYNAMICS,INC.
