that free engine will soon get kinda expensive with all that bottom end work :)

I gather you are in the UK, for pistons it seems Mahle is a good source (I think OEM for saab on some apps?). over here in the states, TRW is a big hard parts supplier, the TRW's i've seen for saab were just reboxed Mahle's, and considerably cheaper than Mahle. I would shop locally then compare on the internet.

You should be fine with regards to the strength of the bottom end. even B engines have a steel crank and forged rods. I would recommend forged pistons only if you plan on buzzing it consistently past 6000 rpm. forged pistons are very strong, but require twice the cold clearance of cast pistons, are pretty expensive, and man do they make a lot of noise (skirt slap) when cold.

injection systems? the mechanical versions are easier to tinker with, and a little more straightforward. the early electronic systems are kinda flaky IMO. one trick that *kinda* works on the early mechanical injection systems is to switch the cold start injector to open under wide open throttle. I say *kinda* because that injector is a looooong ways from the cylinder, and the metering is pretty imprecise, but, you are getting more gas in there :)

all this being said, you might want to rethink the direction you're going. essentially you're taking an engine that's been heavily modified (different pistons, sodium cooled AND smaller valves) and then going back and essentially modifying it again to put it back to stock. I may be wrong, but if memory serves correct (it's been at least 10 years since i've seen the inside of a B engine) the valves ARE smaller on the turbo heads vs. normally asipirated, and the ports might be different.

playing armchair mechanic, see if ya can find a 76-78 EMS engine. I had a 78 EMS, and it was a fun car, even stock the engine ran hard and revved well, the EMS cams have a nice little lump to them, one of the best saabs i've owned (totaled being hit at a stop light, not a scratch on me, but that's another story ;) ) I'm just playing devils advocate, but I think you'll get better results AND save money to start out as close as you can to what you want, and go from there, rather than turn a turbo engine into a normally aspirated version or vice verso. just my thoughts, i'm sure you have your reasons!
