Custom pistons are the right way to lower your compression ratio however on the 2.1 I have I've thought about shortening the rods so I can just use the same pistons as it is a very low mileage car. The disadvantage would be a loss in quench area but the 16 valve Saab head's combustion chamber design is pretty forgiving there. We do a lot of rod length alterations and even have the custom rod bushings in stock to do this. Your 2.1 has a 3mm larger bore that a 2.0. Stroking your engine wouldn't be a good idea as on a C-900 the trans gets in the way. The 2.1 architecture is enough the same to make it possible to get an early 2.3 9000 crank in a C-900 but it's a lot of work especially if you add heavy metal to the counter weights so you don't end up with the problems the guys do by removing their balance shafts from their 2.3's. Also the shorter (custom) rod that would have to be used would give you a bad rod length to stroke ratio even with a shorter pin height piston. Dave
