I have subsequently gone the route of just building up a well flowing engine with turbo only, but for cost effectiveness, a small nitrous boost in the lower rpm is a great way to both spool up the turbo, and help low end performance for dragrace, or whenever you want a little kick off the line, there are lots of ways and systems to shut off the nitrous at a certain rpm and/or boost level to get the desired transition, and at 25-35 shot levels should be more than safe, if you balance the resultant low end boost to not exceed what we know to be the limits of the transmission, ie, don't let it all come on at once like a gangbuster, keep torque under the 260lb range, somewhere in there, which is what we run through them at peak boost on big turbos anyways, and just be gentle ramping the throttle and shifting.
I would honestly like to see more people (who do their research properly and preliminarily, of course) go this route, just because the cost/performance gain is significantly better in the short term/small gain as compared to exhaust/head/cam/other more expensive mods.
You have to take fuel delivery into account of course, and I'm willing to bet that there is a certain tuner around North Carolina that would be open to experimenting if you show enough interest and determination.
If I ever solve/bypass the weak transmission problem, this is something I will likely do someday.
