My 9k has the probe on the end plug, where the EGR hose connects. Your numbers sound about right.
On long WOT runs in Germany, especially uphill, the gauge pegs-out above 1600F pretty quick. Never myself, or any passengers, had the nerve to look down while on a hard lap at Nurburgring, imagine it gets pretty hot w/ track use as well.
