It is very loud, but pretty exhilarating because it sounds like a mean track car. I have had an open downpipe, and a race glasspack muffler off the downpipe, and the sound from in the cabin is about the same, it resonates a LOT and is almost impossible to cope with, but simply running a pipe out the side of even the back makes it just sounds like a really loud exhaust, and doesn't resonate. That's basically what my exhaust setup is right now, headers --> 3" downpipe --> 3" Heddman glasspack --> 3" sidepipe.

This video is the only one I have handy, it really isn't much quieter than a straight open pipe, the muffler takes out some of the raspiness. Driving it, you get used to it really fast, especially if you like loud exhausts, because it sounds absolutely to die for. You can hear the turbo, and the popping and burbling and all that, sounds fantastic going up the mountains.

Basically to summarize, an open downpipe resonates inside the car too much, but running the pipe out makes it very liveable and lots of fun. Just don't get on it when the cops roll by. I have heard Hondas who don't have the noise absorbing turbos with full catted muffler systems that are louder than my car. It's loud, but bearable and lots of fun.
