The only thing I can think of (if it's not your starter) is if your intake cam and sprocket has somehow become misaligned? Beyond that remember JAK's fail safe cam timing method, of course with number 1 TDC firing and the cam timing marks aligned to the caps as close as possible "make sure that there are 15 pins" between the sprocket timing marks. Not that this is your problem by any means but I believe '86 intake cams still have the non-symmetrical lobs like the '85's therefore being a very low performance cam. As far as your basic problems I'd probably pull all the spark plugs out and turn the engine clockwise from the pulley end with the valve cover of and watch the valve action to make sure nothing weird is going on?
