my wastegate helper spring pic c900

Here's a picture I took of the wastegate helper spring I just installed in my 85t. I used a large hoseclamp around the top "bulb" of the wastegate to secure a metal loop (made from another hose clamp piece) to mount one end of the spring. The other end of the spring goes through the hole previously occupied by the cotter pin.
Total cost was a few hours and a $2.50 spring from home depot.
I tried to follow Jak's instructions about not overloading the internal spring, so I only turned the rod about 4 to 5 complete turns from the point where it just slips onto the pin. The rest of the tension comes from the helper spring. At this point my bast boost is around 7. To increase base boost, I may try to get a stronger spring or maybe cut this one down and stretch it out more. It was rated around 11.5 lbs.
Hope this helps anyone comtemplating this mod. I think the hoseclamp + small loop of metal is a relatively painless way to mount a helper spring. I was going to try to drill a hole to mount a metal eyelet for the spring, but didn't think I could do this without removing pieces I didn't want to remove.
