I like to point out the following when folks talk about how well a certain oil runs in older Saabs...
The piston rings have moved up closer to the piston top. This has happened to all makes. The purpose was to reduce the amount of air/fuel that gets trapped in that gap and to thus reduce HC emissions and to improve efficiency very slightly. The result is that the rings run hotter and oil in the rings is subject to higher tempertures than in the older engines. With water cooled turbo's, the piston rings are now the hot spot. This may be significant issue in how oils stand up... or fail.
