Welding makes a lot of sense. When you are dealing with forces large enough to twist the whole body, you nave to realize that many fastener arrangements would not be rigid enough.
That hardware looks nice, but does nothing to prevent one side from moving up/down relative to the otherside.
I have done FEA analysis on light armored vehicles and have some understanding of whats going on. Both vehicles have large rear openings and are otherwise flexible boxes.
