...I was really hoping one of the more advanced builders here would comment. From what I gleaned, a 10:1 ratio with flat pistons forces air/fuel mix into and through the groove. Saab classic turbos are what, 7.5:1 with dished pistons? Without the piston coming close to the head, air/fuel mix is not funneled into the grove as efficiently, so it is not focused towards the plug efficiently. What I don't like about the site is that almost all the information is subjective not objective. Also, all the info seems to come from this one guy who writes the site. Finally, how much of the gain is simply due to increasing car compression to 10:1 from stock 8 and 9:1? Site needs study comparing 10:1 before and after the modification. Site also needs objective numbers from multiple unrelated observers. BadBricks site seems to have a couple of people beginning to do this.
Seems like this might be better for n/a cars, but might work slightly on turbos. I really hope one of the bigger players chooses to give some input.
Yes, there are small areas of quench on 900C heads KenManiac. You can see yourself by going to the classic 900 BB and searching "head pictures".
