WOT mountain driving 900 Commemoratives Posted by Landjet [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
We did a trophy dash over Independence Pass in Colorado where going up mountain, I experienced elevated coolant temperatures -- gauge needle was about one eighth inch from the redzone. I flipped on the heater to max temp and max fan to cool it off. The temp dropped off with the heater in the "on" position. We were up and down the gears WOT for probably 4 miles at 9000 ft elevation up to 12000. By the way, this car will run away from my 73 911S.
1993 Turbo Commemorative
Mods/setup include:
Brad's dizzy mod- 10 degree retard
Brad's modified head intake geometry
SMBC
25 # per hour injectors
Plugs are NGK 6 heat range
New cooling system - rad, pump, hoses
premium gas
Extra 300 lbs of luggage/gear
So, the question is "why the elevated coolant temps?" The Commemorative in front of me (20 feet the whole way) did not elevate. But no SMBC or the other mods and no 300 pounds of gear.
Dean thought it could be over concentrated coolant vs water mixture -- any other ideas?
