Interresting thing is looking at the # of teeth on the pinion and ring gears, the 9000 should be the strongest of the saab gearboxes.
the different final drive ratios are
3.61 9000 83:23 (83 crown gear/23 pinion gear)
3.818 900 84:22
4.05 9-3 85:21
4.45 non/T 89/20
The pinion gear teeth have the most stress on them and in the 9000 gearbox there are more teeth, the diameter of the pinion gear is larger so the angles between teeth are less. The 9000 pinion gears themselves should actually be stronger.
I think it may have something to do with the huge torque peak that 9000's produce around 3500 RPM that seems to be a little supressed in the T-7 cars, especially with the torque limiting in 2nd gear.
My aero trans with the 4.05 ratio and limited slip installed actually lasted over 4 years, I guess that isn't too bad.
I think an oil cooler would help, since this happened during a very long track session mostly in the higher gears where the torque load on the pinion gear is much less because of the higher ratios proceeding it when in 3rd and 4th ect.
