I got to hang our with Walter Wong in LA twice this month, and he is going just as strong and loves Saabs just as much as ever. I took in my modded '85 900 Turbo to show him, and ended up diagnosing and replacing an ailing fuel pump, and fixing some vaccuum leaks and some other little things, and we diagnosed the work out wastegate actuator on the '93 9000 Aero on another visit. Walter never ceases to amaze at how quickly he can find a broken part, recongnize a problem, or lend advise for a little better driveability, or fuel mileage.

Anyways, he now has a new shop opened up (last weekend was the opening actually) about a block from the current shop on Venice Blvd. in Los Angeles. The new shop is NAPA certified and he can service all makes and models, and repairs are good for 2 years, and can be upheld at any NAPA auto center in the USA. He described to be that the new shop will have the same technical skill and customer care that he has always offered, but for all makes and models, so be sure to recommend the neighbors, and take in the wife's car to get worked on by someone we all know, love and trust!

Also, Walter has been working with the SoCal Saab club for a while to have some get-togethers. He would like to get some more regular visits from groups, and there is plenty of space at the new bigger shop for get-togethers (parking for 30-40 cars). Sunday is the good day for Walter, any interedted persons should announce so on the SoCal Saab club board. I would like to get a group to go over and hang out, talk Saabs and such, before I leave for school, so anyone interested in this weekend on Sunday let me know!

It just blows me away every time I see Walter, how he will set down what he is doing to listen to a weird noise the car is making, or just talk about growing up in Argentina and modding his Dad's Olsmobile into a circle track car, or whatever. He just loves the cars, and the people.

Which reminds me, he is upset at General Motors for not selling the TechII diagnostic tools for Saabs newer than 2003 (which is common nowadays) to independent shops, and is getting into working on Subaru's now as well. He has found an owner base with similar layalties and enthusiasm to that of Saab owners, and he is excited to extend his business. So any of you with Subie's make sure you give him a call about that too!
