Lotus builds the pan for the Tesla.
A B234 is about 150lb too heavy and probably too large to reasonably fit in an Elise, even in normally-aspirated form.
Once one accepts the idea that a particular car need not be all things to all people, electric cars make a fair amount of sense. In temperate climates with current battery technology it'd be possible to get probably 150mi range and 80mph useful speed out of something the size of a 9000.
Emissions from the "EV cycle" depends on what and where you get your electricity from. The electricity T&D system in this country is patchy enough that if big wads of EVs showed up overnight they'd cause all kinds of problems.
The biggest downside is still cell pack life and the cost and complexity of disposing of the used-up cells.
