Considering what John had to say and he knows what he's talking about (I'm more into the early Saab's) it looks like a late Saab rod retrofit may be a good way for you to go! Also you made a good point that you'll be doing with 5 rods what we do with 4 rods. With all that said here's what I found in my Saab rod spec notes! Pre-'94 rod length 134mm (5.2756"), late 2.0 ltr rod length 159mm (6.2598"), and the late 2.3 rods are 153mm (6.0236"). Last but not least, our custom (longer) early rods are 5.500" long.
