Hey there Andrew,
That really depends on what model/year car you're talking about. I'm 95% certain that T-5 cars (93-98 9000's, 94-98 900 turbos, 99 9-3 non-Viggen) can handle venting to the atmosphere with no impact on driveability. T-7 cannot handle this however, and will cause a rich condition and will run 'like crap.' C900's can be vented to the atmosphere, though the benefits of doing so are widely regarded as negligable, unless you want the sound. I personally have a Forge recirculating valve on my T-7 Viggen, along with the Taliaferro open air intake, and you can hear the turbo spool and the valve open very clearly. It's not as loud as a 'Blow-Off Valve,' but I'm more than happy with the subtle wooosh I get, and the adjustability and reliability of the forge unit. Good luck.
