Hello fellow enthusiasts!
First let me say, this site and these boards are a savior! Furthermore, everyone’s willingness to share info and help others is commendable! ;-)
To cut right to it, I’m flying Friday to pickup a 1999 9-3SE that I’ve been searching high and low for. I took my time and found what I hope is “the one.” It is *really* clean, has 64k miles, a 5spd (mandatory), Car Fax certified, has a good warranty and impeccable service records which I considered quite important. Anyway, I wanted to get some ideas from everyone regarding the order I should do the mods in and also ask a few questions.
I obviously want to upgrade the suspension and start tuning the car (don’t we all?!). So here is a list in regards to the order I’m considering doing these mods in:
1) 18” wheels & new tires (see question below regarding tire sizes), Koni adjustable suspension kit w/ lowering springs, steering rack brace & clamp kit, rear anti-roll bar, 6 pt brace, upgraded suspension bushings (Inner), upgraded suspension bushings (Outer), ARP head and stainless exhaust manifold studs
2) JSP cold air intake, 3” down pipe, 3” cat back
3) JSP 321 header, FMIC and ECU
4) Sport engine & gearbox mount, wide band A/F gauge, boost gauge
I do plan to tune it further but this is my plan for now… Does that sound like a reasonable order of doing things? Is there anything else recommended to do while I’m doing all this? Gearbox will then come next. Speaking of which, does anyone have experience with the Quaife 6 spd close ratio gear kit for the F25 gearbox? In particular; do they whine very much? I’ve driven a S00bE STi quite a bit with straight cut gears and it whines like hell! So I was curious if these are similar since I don’t think I could stand a whine that loud for my daily driver…
I have a question concerning 18” wheel/tire combos in conjunction with the Koni Sport Kit. I want to run the big brake kit eventually (360mm front, 330mm rear) and just like the looks of 18’s so bigger wheels are a must. I’m looking at either a 225/40ZR18’s or 235/40ZR18’s on 18”x 8” wheels. Will there be any rubbing issues with either of these size tires? One last question; does anyone have experience with Michelin Pilot Sports? If so, ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated!
I look forward to everyone’s suggestions and comments! I will surely have more questions, so please bear with me…
Many thanks for your time and any info provided! ;)
