Jak built a 3-inch stainless downpipe for my 9000 a month ago, & I finally got it installed yesterday. Unfortunately he didn't yet have jigs available to build the cat-back portion of the system, so I searched for a local shop to build that portion & install everything.

Problem is that the shop I chose, although a Magnaflow dealer, didn't have the right parts on hand after they had already cut my previous system.

So, they installed a pair of mufflers (front one straight through, rear one not) along with conventionally bent 3-inch stainless pipe. They claimed the mufflers were made solely for their shop (!!) . . . the mufflers are mirror polished, & embossed with the letters "SS 409".

The completed system is a bit too loud for my tastes when the car is at idle, but the worst part is the droning noise inside the car at almost any engine or vehicle speed. My previous exhaust system (stock downpipe, aftermarket allegedly "high-flow" cat, Ferrita stainless cat-back) had no drone at all, although my wife regularly groused about exhaust tone (one recent comment: "oh, you're home . . . I thought a UPS truck was backing up the driveway").

Does anyone else have experience with these SS 409 mufflers? Am I likely to get rid of the drone if I can get 3-inch Magnaflow mufflers installed? If so, what size Magnaflow mufflers might be best? I would really like to have high flow but little noise, & especially a lot less drone.

The car is a 9000CS with manual tranny & a SQR Stage 3 tune. An uprated turbo & intercooler are also in its future.

I like the downpipe & the oval tip, now just have to remedy everything in between . . .

TIA,

- Mark
