The 1987 9000 employs the Garrett T3 and this should be easily capable of supporting 225 BHP while still running efficiently. The turbocharger upgrades will not provide additional boost/charge pressures but will lower the charge temperatures (provide more dense air). The cooler the air, the more BHP created at the same charge pressures and we use the analogy of comparing July to January in terms of engine performance. The cold days will always provide a more dense air delivery and higher engine output.
Many of the "stage one" APC systems target 15 psi which (with other specified upgrades) may allow for the 210 - 220 BHP output for the B202 engines.
You could easily use the factory turbocharger in this range or go for a modest upgrade (T3/T4 with S trim) but you will want to keep the .48 A/R turbine for spool with the larger compressor wheels.
