As tony says, the automatic a
A|ero has the same engine as the automatic fpt CSE, ie. 200 bhp. Saab did this to protect the transmission. But plenty of people increase both power and torque on automatic cars: for instance, Maptun do so but will limit torque to 400 NM, whigh is one-third higher than standard.
I'm about to put my power up to about 240 bhp with an upgraded ECU and that will be enough for all practical purposes, I reckon.
Automatic transmissions can and do break and more torque makes this more likely, so don't spend your life doing full-throttle downshifts! However, the manual box isn't especially pleasant, it can break too, and clutches go or need beefing up for higher power so it's not all one way. Personally, I love my automatic and it's an excellent match for the engine, responding well to upgrades.
On a wider point, if I were buying any 9000 I'd personally go for as late a car as I coujld find, say 96 to 98 (no '98 Aeros but the manual CSEs had Aero engines and suspension). However, price and condition are major factors too.
