this fellow ran the LPT but the HG ended up letting go. You are prudent to do a new HG before running the engine.
Personally i have a nice 91 2.1L car, body in great shape and in red to boot, kind of sick of the Edwardian as i have 4 of those... anyway i was considering doing the LPT as well since i have an SPG parts car complete.
i looked at it and it seemed a hell of a lot of work to go thru to create a car which could at any time self-destruct, and i dont just mean the HG - i mean crank and con rod bearing damage, etc. These werent the greatest engines ever built... for instance i think Saab went a bit too far boring the block out, creating even less distance between coolant passage and cylinder bore.
Another thing - i find the true joy of driving a turbo is the 35+MPH acceleration past the other losers on the road... i'd rather do a complete NA to Turbo conversion on a nice car than the half-assed LPT route. and i mean the entire dash, wiring harnesses, oil cooler, you name it. at the same time i'd delete the ABS because replacement pumps are $1,400 new and i've never seen one at the yard either, only on 9000's and they are different.
