Head Bolt re-torque Posted by jdlincoln [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I know this subject has been talked about numeruos times on various boards, but I am still a bit confused, so bear with me.
If I want to re-torgue the head, (slight slow coolant loss) on my 97 9K aero, SQR stage II, 93,000 mi., I should get new headblots from europarts, (ordered today). Some posts say to remove one bolt at a time in the correct sequence, then torque the new bolt to whichever torque specs are correct for the bolt in three stages. My question is: Isn't the purpose of the 3 stage torque to be sure that the pressure is applied to the head in a consistent, even way through torquing ALL the bolts in the correct sequence through each torque step? Wouldn't it be better to replace one bolt at a time in the correct sequence torque to the first step, then go back over all the bolts in sequence through the next two steps?
Any comments, thoughts or experiences with this are appreciated.
Also have ordered the coolant leak detector.
