I put 13000 miles on my Dunlops and then got rid of them. They probably
would have lasted till 16000 if I were a cheapskate. I should have
gotten ride of them sooner.
I put Continental ContiSport Contacts on. I have about 27000 miles on the
car now and they are still a good ride, not noisy, and handle good.
Numerous others, as Stan mentioned, have changed tires and have been
happy with the results (a variety of choices here). Michelin, Pole
Position SO2, certain Pirellis, all sorts of stuff. Check the archives.
Pirellis are nice, but from a past experience, they didn't last long
at all.
I bought 5 tires from tirerack (figured if I ruined one I could be back
on the road the same day as opposed to special small order and waiting
a week for a matching tire.) I've bought quite a bit of stuff there.
hint: Their phone operators have more upto-date inventory information
than their website, though the website inventory is usually accurate.
My wheels are not peeling or chipping. (I did dent one though)
