BOV or Bypass better

I've got an '88 9000 and also just finished reading through Corky Bell's book, Maximum Boost and it's got me wondering. I've made some inquiries, but the reading got me thinking about this. Clearly my car has the bypass variety - sending the excess air back to the cold side of the turbo, along with the regular air. I've seen a couple companies sell BOV to replace the bypass valve and they release the air, so you get the sounds associated with a turbo driven car. I've talked to a couple people I trust and they both suggest that for this car the bypass valve is the better option - so no "woosh" for me. So I'm curious what others here think about these BOVs. In my own mind the question that I had was wouldn't the temp of the air be a lot warmer than the ambient air coming through the filter, so therefore contribute to warming up the air, albeit before it goes back through the IC. And I don't have an idea about normal temps of the air after the IC versus the temp of the air forced through the hot turbo, so this well maybe moot, but inquiring mind would like to know.
The last thought I had was it would seem to me that since this air is coming in post mass air meter, it should have an impact on how much oxygen is going in and I would think one would have more of a closed and predictable system if the only air coming into the system is that which goes past the air mass meter. I'm on the edge of my understanding, so perhaps there is more to it than I am seeing, but I would love some feedback on this. TIA
