Not wanting to start a feud on this.... but this would be the method I would recommend *rather* than using the K&N filter. Cut the air box to allow less restriction there. If you haven't taken the filter out to just change it, try it sometime. It's a bit of work, and then you have to clean and re-oil the filter(K&N) and put it back in. I bet that you get satisfactory results opening up the airbox continuing with the paper filter, not creating another maintenance item, and driving your car and not worrying about adding to your maintenance schedule. Compare it to cleaning Aero or Super Aero wheels... or those wonderful (not) 15 spoke sunburst or teardrop wheels... ugh!
I used to use the oil filters on my dirt bike and it was a ritual, once a week pull the filter out, clean the filter out (what will you use on the K&N? and where will you be doing this?) oil the filter, on the dirt bike grease the lip, and reinstall. While the car will not require this short of an interval, the paper filter is much faster to do and much longer between doing it... and I have yet to hear anyone say that using the stock paper filter harmed their engine...
But if you are after that last 10 HP, and want to shorten your maintenance interval, what not. Me? I'd rather be driving, or at Most putting some more Klassey AIO on it...
Just a thought...
