Nick had the gt2871 64ar and then the gt3071 64ar. The 3071 spooled faster and made more power than the gt2871 :-)

Ethonal is great for being able to add more timing down low, but it actually needs to be retarded more in the higher rpm from what I am reading when compared to gasoline, but yea, knock is not the problem anymore, its cylinder pressure! Similar to w/m injection I would say.

Kevin Yanktons 2.0 motor and 234 cams and gt3076 made 445whp and it was not pushed near as hard. vigge made 450whp with gasoline and from his data, spooled up as good or better than Nick's car with the larger .86ar turbine housing.

My car now has the enem 264 cams and gt3076wg .86ar and its spooling up about the same as my gt3071 .86ar turbo with enem cams and makes the same power on about 5psi less boost :-)

I am about 300rpm later than Nick at sea-level and I have the larger .86ar turbine housing which is about 300rpm later and the elevation is a good 300-500rpm later too, so I am pretty happy with my spool-up rpm.

The cam question is answered best by saying the enem cams work better up top than the stock ones and the egts are much lower, my personal car's egts lowerd by as much as 150-200F with the same amount of boost! Instead of hitting a wall where the stock cams don't breath that well, you are now putting the breathing of the cams in place with where the larger turbo works well and its a great combination! Higher rpm and power work well together and I love how the power band is in my car now with the cams and the larger tubo.

Its all about what you want, but the cams give you better breathing up top and will lower the egts. If you don't have a large turbo and don't use the high rpm range much, the cams would not be a good fit.

Ay my elevation with stock cams and gt3071 .86ar, I did spool up later, but was still running out of steam by 5700-6000rpm, a pretty big loss in torque and hp up there. With the cams, the car spooled up about the same place and pulled very hard all the way to 6500rpm or so.

For racing this is a great combination as now when I shift from third to fourth gear, I am right back in the meat of the power and torque. With stock cams, the car felt like it was just along for the ride above 5700rpm or so...

Hope that helps,

John
