Can you go back to the 16". I run 15" on my auto-x car, but it's not a saab. If these are tight tracks where you do not see third gear very often, then I would go to the 16's and get R rated tires. You will decrease times by seconds.
Get a 5 gal air tank and bring it to the courses. Use chaulk and see how the tires are doing. The big trick on my car is to lower pressure about 5 lbs from stock as this puts more tire on the ground. Not sure if it would work on a saab.
