well to start the story, i bought a 89 900 NA 4 door 5 speed as a wintercar for this year. total cost of the purchase was 50$. the car hadnt been driven or started in 3 years, i fired it up and put it on the road.
somewhere along the line i wanted to install a turbo exaust, and that elevated to a turbo swap. i adjusted the wastegate to 7PSI and have been running it.
It has been losing a little oil from the headgasket, and i would like to try and squeeze alittle more out of it without playing around with boost as i dont want to kill my NA engine.
So i was thinking, if i do the headgasket, and install a 2.1 head and intake, i would lose a little compression, and low end, but in theory the highend flow would be better... thats all well and good, but the car pulls best below 4000 rpm, and with the 2.1 intake i would immagine i would lose low end, and not gain much up top due to the high compression pistons and lack of boost. Would it be smart to install the 2.1 head and intake, or just leave it with the stock 2.0 top end... Would the lower compression with the 2.1 head allow a tiny bit more boost safely.
On another note, I also dislike the stock IC, and i refuse to spend any money on the car if i can help it, i have been contemplating a 9k IC. I know i will have to Cut my tow hooks out of the saddle, and an Ebay IC would be much easier, but the 9k IC is far cheaper..
Once again both the head and Intercooler look to me like a way to lose low end in exchange for highend, and in a car that doesnt make much highend i dont want to give up the low end torque for nothing.
I plan to put a lh2.4 turbo ECU in the car when i get my SPG running on T5, and i really should hook the EZK CPS to the Turbo distributor, but i have a feeling the headgasket will be replaced first.
any thoughts would be appriciated.
