"Car makers keep parts for a long while"
Agreed, it will likely be quite some time before necessary parts are challenging (if not impossible) to obtain. For what it's worth, I have a '60 Austin-Healey (the last year for Healeys was '72) and am constantly amazed at how readily available parts are.
A recent issue of "The Economist" contained a story which highlighted the current state of both Saab and Volvo. In brief, it's not looking very promising but there's a lot of that going around.
As Bill suggested, be like Mad Max but try not to get suckered into driving a tanker filled with sand.
