Recently ran my modified 86 900 8 valve N/A at Maple Grove Raceway.
The opening weekend for the season was this past Saturday the 4th. The first test and tune day for the year. It was a dry windy day as we approached the track. My father brought his 86 Monte Carlo SS along for the fun. While waiting in line to pass the gates, It is brought to my attention that due to the high crosswinds at the finish end of the track they were only going to run 1/8th mile today. That is fine with me. I merely wanted to get some data to calculate horsepower. My father was good with it too, wanting to improve his out of the hole performance and 60 foot times. Each of us got to make 6 passes down the track. Traction sucked all day as the track surface was cold, and had sat for 5 months. Because it was chilly, they had to stop the action many times as the condensation built up in the tailpipes of the participants and would expell itself on the starting line every time.

I pulled out onto the track for my first run, avoiding the water in the burnout pit (ran my stock street tires). I did a short dry hop burnout to clean the stones off the tires. I pulled into the lights and pre staged, bumped the clutch a little to turn on the stage lights. I got the revs up around 3k, waited for the christmas tree, and dumped the clutch. Had a good R/T at .147. Smoked em off in first and chirped em into second. 2.4 second 60 foot times.( my 9-5 aero bested at 2.2) Went thru the traps at 12 seconds and change, at 61 mph.

As I went thru the day I made some changes to the car and to the way I was launching the car. I dropped the front tire pressure incrimentally over the next few runs to get the traction to improve. Also found that the car seemed to like to leave at 2500 revs. The track got a little better as the day went on. The more rubber that got laid down, the better the traction was. All in all it was a good day, Neither my father nor myself had any reliability issues. We both had reasonably good runs. My times eventually improved to a best time of 11.1 at around 61mph. I would have preferred to see the results from a 1/4 mile run, but this will do.

Anyone with time slips from their dragstrip experience?

Id like to find some data from other cars and engine combos.
