The mid year '91 to '93 9000 heads (both turbo and non-turbo) are the same castings as the Classic 900 2.1 non-turbo heads which don't interchange with anything '94 and up. As Bill pointed out the '94 up "short" engines with more front clearance only fit the short engine timing covers etc. Also from '94 up the heads are thinner by .037" which retards the camshafts so their sprockets make up for that plus the late sprockets have more offset to clear the balance shaft drive chains and sprockets. Besides all that the '94 up heads flow better! I believe it was in '99 that Saab went to the smaller valve stems however the head casting are still the same so you can go to the larger ID guides and the earlier larger stemmed valves for more reliability like Maptun recommends which we often do.
