I guess Im just a cheap ass! I dont have to buy anything but some gaskets to slap this together and go try to make a pass. It will get her up and running quickly. I can build a better motor later on. If you have been reading my posts, Im a bit scatterbrained sometimes. I have 5 Saab powered projects going on. Sometimes its better for me to just get it together for now, (even if its not exactly what I want). Better than a pile of parts under the tarp . I could start 5 more projects too.
The idea behind this was to have a motor that I could put in the car for very little money. Im figuring a 1000- 1500 investment TOPS to get her in the staging lanes. Roll cage, seat, fuel cell, slicks. Save the money for that. I need to get a running Saab 16v turbo for little coin. I have the car but its an 8vt. Im raiding the 8v head stuff for my 86 900 project. and Im left with a 8vt bottom end sitting on a decent 5 spd in the parts car chassis. I have a new head gasket sitting on the shelf and a good used 16vt head and intake that I took off my other car to put a 2.1 upper end on. If it bolts on Im in business. I have all the wire harness bits and control boxes off the 87 900 turbo I parted out a few years ago. I would just need to source a turbo exh manifold and fab up a downpipe.
Just curious if it had been done before and how it worked.
