Hey all,
I know some of you all will respond not to cut the springs; but, If you are unfamiliar with cutting springs and calculating spring rates please do not respond.
This is my thought. I currently have Koni springs with bilstein struts on my 2001 Saab 9-3 base coupe. My car was originally a base model so I don't have a body kit. As a result I can lower my car further than a Viggen could be. This is my goal.
The car on Koni's is still too high and is very hard. My thought is to cut a coil or coil and a half to lower the car more. Additionally it should better the ride quality because the stock springs (even with less coils) should have more travel than the Koni's.
I don't think I will have to worry about bottoming. Once they are cut the rate of deflection per coil will increase because of the additional stress on each, thus increasing the spring rate... And lets be honest the 2001 9-3 is a SUV in base form.
Does this sound like I am on the right track or should I be working on fabricating some coil overs?
