It sounds a bit to me like some people are forgetting just how simple the LH-Jetronic system is.
1) Stock fueling setup with a 3.0 BAR fuel pressure regulator got me to about 200whp/200wtq with no problems, and good AFR's to 5000 rpm. It goes lean after that, but I don't accelerate at WOT above 5000 rpm almost ever. That was with a TE-05, full 3" exhaust, 2.1L head and intake, and a decent size front mount intercooler - on 8 psi of boost.
The thread is here: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/performance/index.html?bID=102306
2) The Jetronic ECU can compensate a surprising amount to give you decent idle and cruise with larger injectors / FPR - 30#'ers might be pushing it, but I have personally driven a customer's '94 C900T convertible with the SD Red APC and the 27#/30# injectors - and it runs great and he gets good fuel mileage.
3) Yes, APC controls only boost, ECU controls only fuel. Saying a fuel ECU is 'the way to go' is misleading - for big power YOU NEED BOTH.
4) For moderate power, you can get away with neither - start looking through old posts. There are lots of cheap or free things you can do to feel out how much power you want.
5) If you don't already have at the very least a 3" downpipe and possibly a freer flowing turbo, you are not ready for the fuel upgrades yet, excepting going to a 3.0 BAR fuel pressure regulator.... unless you're doing the whole build-up all at once. If this is your first time tuning a C900 I would not recommend that method, but that's just me.
6) I now have Jak's Stage 2 ECU, one of Dave/EricP's Stage 2 APC's, tube headers with a TD-04-15G from a 9000 Aero, 34# Trionic5 injectors and I had to step DOWN to a 2.5 BAR fuel pressure regulator, and it STILL runs too rich at cruise and at WOT until ~5000 rpm. My car now makes something around 225whp and 285wtq on ~20-22 psi of boost. See below.
I have been trying to decide for waaaayyy too long if I was going to try to get the ECU dialed back in closer, or if I will just convert it to Trionic5 and dial it in myself, or if I am going to de-tune it some. I'm not really able to take advantage of the power here in LA.
The car does make a really nice tow rig though, with a '91 N/A 5-speed gearbox, the 457 14.
Best,
Drew
*******Torque is the nice flat one, the bottom traces are boost pressure and AFR measured at the tail-pipe, which matched almost exactly with my PLX kit mounted with a Bosch LSU sensor in the downpipe.********
