It runs really well too, and passed CA smog test flying colors. Boosts correctly, nice and fast, pretty mind blowing. I am astonished with how well T7 will cope with the hardware difference.

I bought this 2000 Viggen 'vert that had been monkeyed with extensively before I rescued it from the impound lot where it got dragged to. The car is not quite masculine enough for me, so I bought it for my fiancee, who swore she'd never drive a Saab, that'd be my little obsession.... but she's obsessed with everything the color blue. And low and behold. A car that's blue inside and out, so she loves it. Go figure.

No CELs, no misfiring. And I was FLOGGING the thing yesterday after I got it all back together after work two nights ago to see if I could get a CEL to come up so I could deal with getting a 2.0L ECU so I could smog it.

The displacement difference from the 2.0L to the 2.3L is 15%. I go into the ECU with the Tech2, and the airmass deviation from calculated is.... EXACTLY -15%. Global fuel adaptation is -15% also. Even at wide open throttle it's matching the mixture nicely to what it wants to see.

And I *think* it might even be running a little bit more boost pressure than you'd usually see on a 2.3L, since T7 puts out the airmass request that it wants, and since the engine should ingest something like 15% less air than it should be, the computer can increase the boost pressure a little bit to make up the difference to try to achieve the requested airmass. I haven't thrown a guage on it to check, I've only had it running for 2 days now, but I will write back with what I find.

Photos of the car are at: http://picasaweb.google.com/drewpprice/KirstenS1400Viggen#

*The sludgy engine in the middle was a possible donor B234 from a 9000 that spun a few rod bearings.

Facts: Car can with partially assembled (and blown) 2.0L engine installed.

Hypothesis: Previous owner probably had the B235R grenade, and he bought a '99 9-3 with the B204L (NOT even a B205!) to swap into it not knowing they weren't the same. He left the Viggen flywheel and clutch, gearbox, ECU, air box, timing cover and oil pan installed, but changed out the block.

A lot of things were only partially connected, and with the B204 head installed the B235 intake manifold didn't even line up correctly, as seen below. This guy worked hard to make the wrong things work together.

Engine in the car had a blown head gasket and at least one rod bearing knocking,

I replaced:

Head gasket
Rebuild T7 head (kept T7 cams)
Rod bearings
Main bearings
Some serp. belt parts
All the engine gaskets
....and cleaned a lot of things.

Bores, rings and pistons were in gorgeous shape, barely any scuffs on the piston skirts, might have been replaced recently, the engine had grey silicone oozing out of everywhere, looks like some things were probably changed out.

Anyway, just a fun little tidbit for Friday.

Best,
Drew
