Simon is correct to the best of my understanding - any '94+ block will work. To get all the mounts and accessories and brackets and everything to work you may have to switch the oil pan, timing cover and end plate. You may have to switch only some or all of these depending on the donor.
If you get a later T7 engine you will have to either get the intake manifold from the donor car, or put your NG900 head on the new block. The intake port shapes are different. Exhaust should be the same.
If you get a later 9-5 or 9-3 engine you may have to re-use your '97 flywheel and clutch pack, the trans input shaft changed once or twice, but the trans should bolt up, especially if you switch your end cover.
About putting your timing and end covers on the donor engine, remember that if you're going to re-build yours, in order to surface the block's deck where the head bolts to you must give the machine shop the timing cover and end plate - they have to be cut to the new surface of the block, it it won't be flat where the head bolts to.
In any case, it'll be a bit of work if it comes from something other than an NG, but is do-able with the parts you should have from both, depending on what is cost effective for you to get from the yard at the same time as the block.
Best,
Drew
