Hey GM! Miss your SPG?
I'll chime in on this for the Green Diamond crowd. They are recaps. OK, so now you know they aren't meant for hiway driving in the summer at 70mph.
However, I can say that they are bar none, the best snows I have had since I owned a 1970 Olds Toronado with studded snows on the front. That car was unstoppable. The AWD Subaru I got for my daughter's college days in Colorado had narrow GD tires. It would climb hills. During a snowstorm that immobilized the entire Kansas City metro area a few years ago on Christmas Eve, I took off at sunrise on Christmas morning. I saw two other cars in 50 miles of driving, and both went into snow banks because you couldn't see the curvature of the road. But the little Sooboo with GD tires just kept on cranking and climbing.
The formula in Colorado was called "cookie cutters" so you have a smaller diameter wheel with a taller aspect ratio and a narrow tire. They carve out the snow, and have less resistance to rolling forward through the accumulation.
Doubtful you need to go that route .... if the GD tires weren't recaps, I would consider them for an all round tire, but for what you are doing, I'd go with a Nokian Hak. Maybe they don't even make them anymore, but I have a set mounted up on a 900 for the winter and they are killer.
Happy Holidays
