shut off car, while keeping both feet on clutch and brake pedal.
Then Parking brake. Then release the clutch and brake pedal.
Before all that, make sure to turn the front wheels to the direction of the curb or away from it. Depends on if you're looking at downhill or uphill.
There should be a handy picture of this procedure in your car user's manual.
In the SAAB it's in the reverse gear if you want to take the key out eventually. Other cars you can choose any gear you want.
1st gear is used in the SAAB when changing a flat tire, engine off, key in.
