I, too, care about the performance of my Saab. I am learning everything I can, sharing my experiences and pitfalls.
Regardless of language differences, it's his damn machismo 1979 Trans-Am "I'm better than you" attitude just flat out pisses me off. I laugh at Raul for these reasons:
1) He busts on people who he disagrees with. His fault here is that in the field that is automotive super tuning, trial and error is the name of the game. He is his own case in point. I think it is great that he got his turbo to boost out to 30 psi. Stupid, but great. Nonetheless, different mods work for different people.
2) He thinks he knows everything, and no one else knows anything. Bullshit. Sorry, but that's just wrong. He knows a lot, and I am definitely impressed with his homespun innovations. He's obviously spent a lot of time learning about his car, and about internal combustion engines in general. He should be applauded for his efforts, and efforts to share his experiences with the rest of us. I am tuning my car to be fast, but not stupid fast such that I blow up my engine and transmission every 5K miles. If I wanted white smoke to come out from the wheels of a car, I'd buy a damn GTO. That said, I tune my car to be smart-fast. The engine will go with regular maintenance and can withstand the occassional WOT driving. I am not a rice racer, and I don't go WOT away from every light. He actually said to me that I was not going for any serious power, and that I don't know what I'm doing. Tell that to the people who have riden in my car and LOVE IT; tell that to the people who race me and LOSE.
3) He's a liar. His transmission is fine? Also BS. I talked to him on the phone and he told me about how he sometimes had to start his car out in second gear because first gear was GRINDING. Who does that to their car and thinks everything is ok? Not me.
I spend a lot of time, and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears getting my car to haul ass. It does, no question. Just because I don't want 25 psi of boost pumping through my engine doesn't mean that I do not have good reasons for it. Again, Raul is case in point. Awesome, 30 psi blows up stock pistons. Well no shit Sherlock. I CAN make my car boost 30 psi with the right modifications. I know what they are. I DO NOT WANT IT!
As I have said before: To each his own. I respect what other people do with their cars. I share what I come up with, like the fact that my car passed the very rigid MD state emissions test running 30# injectors. If someone is wrong about something, I let them know about it if I can help them rectify the problem. R-E-S-P-E-C-T is all I want.
I own a Saab.
