8V turbo on 16V?

I am the lucky owner of two 900 turbos, one a 1989 8VT (I am in the UK!)and one 1985 16VT. I have both cars running at approximately 14 psi of boost, and am very happy with them. However, what I am interested in is the fact that the compressor tubine on the 8V is much smaller than the one on the 16V, and this results in the 8V car having much quicker boost rise than the 16V.
To give an example, if I am in the 8V car travelling at 2000rpm in fifth gear, and I floor the accelerator, I will have full boost (1/4 red) by the time the car is at approximately 2500rpm, also, the boost will rise very quickly to the max. level. This level of boost will maintain right up to approx 4500rpm.
However, in the 16V car in the same situation, the boost will take much longer to rise, and it will be nearer 3000rpm to get full boost.
So, my point is, what would my 16V car be like with the 8V turbo on it, and vice versa. Has anybody done this? Would the 16V turbo on the 8V car leave this one very sluggish up to 3000rpm? And what are the disadvantages of running the 8V turbo on the 16V car?
