Pebble Grey Viggen Trim?

I unfortuantely had to replace the front bumper on my 2000 Viggen recently after a delivery truck backed in to me at a stop sign. Luckily I got in reverse and spared my lights, grill and hood. Most of the damage was to the top of the bumper on the pebble grey trim piece. You would think that it is removable but it is not. It is an integral part of the bumper and the new bumper needs to be painted as well to match the color of the car. In my case that would be black. The most unforgiving car color unless it has just been cleaned, but then it looks awesome.
Anyway, the body shop treated the grey trim to protect it during painting and now it has blotchy white areas on it. They have tried different chemicals to clean it but to no avail. Short of demanding a new bumper, has anyone tried to retreat or paint this trim to make it look new?
